Properties Trimethylsulfoxide iodide is a white to light yellow crystal, soluble in water and dimethyl sulfoxide, slightly soluble in methanol.
Use Trimethylsulfoxide iodide is used to synthesize methylene transfer reagents for the preparation of epoxy compounds.
It is mainly used to synthesize fluconazole.
Strong alkali treatment can generate endonium salt, which can react with the carbonyl group of ketones and aldehydes to form epoxides; it can also preferentially react with the double bonds of α,β-unsaturated esters to generate cyclopropyl ester
